How Does It Work?

SolarStill.jpg (11901 bytes)

The Clear Choice Vapor Still is designed to purify water directly for the source.  It operates by floating in a body of contaminated water, using the sun to evaporate and purify it.

The Clear Choice Vapor Still utilizes the same water purification cycle found in nature - evaporation, condensation and precipitation - driven by the energy of the sun.  Utilizing high-tech materials, the still captures the sun's energy and uses it to evaporate dirty or salty water from our unique insulating wick.

The moist, heated air travels upward by a natural convective process until it contacts the cooler surface of the condensing dome. There the water collects in pure droplets much as it would in a cloud.  It then slides down the dome, collecting in a sealed chamber from which the distilled water can be easily drained.

Each Clear Choice Vapor Still will make 1.5 - 2.5 liters of distilled water in a typical day of operation.

What Is The Solar Solutions Solar Still?

jpg_still.JPG (14759 bytes)

The Solar Still is a unique device that uses the sun to evaporate water from the source - any source.    With our still, sea water,  ditches, and even alkaline desert seeps can be used as a source for clean, pure water.  Best of all, the solar still uses only the power of the sun.  When disaster strikes, natural or otherwise, this still is a key resource for survival.  Unlike all other solar stills on the market, our still is easily folded into a small pouch and stored, ready for use.

No other technology has the flexibility to purify water, regardless of source, at this price.

Solar Still - Side View

The Solar Still is constructed of extremely tough and flexible polyurethane film.  The film is approved for potable water use by the National Sanitation Foundation and the FDA, and is specially formulated to resist damage from being exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays.

The still comes in two parts, a dome assembly and an inflatable insulating floor.  The dome assembly consists of a transparent, conical dome welded to an integrated support tube and clean water collection pocket.  The inflatable floor has an evaporative wick attached to it's top surface.

The floor sits underneath the still and keeps the wick and the air inside the still warm by insulating it from the water's surface.  Water is wicked up into the evaporative surface.  Sunlight (1) shines through the transparent dome (2) heating this surface (3).  This causes the water to evaporate (4) and condense on the dome (2).   This leaves all impurities behind in the wick, which can be easily detached and cleaned.

The water that condenses on the dome  flows down it's inner surface (5) into the collection pocket (6), where it can be drained from a pour valve (7) in the dome or sipped from the included straw (8).

This process leaves all impurities behind in the wick, which can be easily detached and cleaned.

The solar still is constructed of extremely tough and flexible polyurethane film. The film is approved for potable water use by the National Sanitation Foundation, and is specially formulated to resist damage from being exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays.

Each still should make 1.5 to 2.5 liters of distilled water in a typical sunny day of operation.
